Wesapo 50% more efficient than Dell, HP and Lenovo

11/7/2007

Recently large computer manufacturers have come up with (mainly business) computers that are more power efficient and environmentally friendly. That these computers are greener than ever is endorsed by the Gold award the American institute Epeat has granted these pc's. However, in the area of power efficiency there is still a lot to be gained. In several data sheets we have found the following numbers on idle power usage:

Dell Optiplex 740dt:    59 watt
HP rp5700:                62 watt
Lenovo ThinkC. A61e: 48 watt
Wesapo-pc:               24 watt

This shows that Wesapo pc's are at least 50% more power efficient than the 'showpieces' of computer manufacturers who are eager to show their green credentials. If this is so, then how can a small system integrator such as Wesapo manage to build desktops that are so much more efficient? We hope you'll ask your supplier the same question.

Upgrading is better than buying a new computer

9/5/2007

Did you know that 80% of the energy a computer consumes during its lifetime is needed for production and distribution? Therefore it's wise when buying a new computer to see what parts of your old computer can be reused.

Using an old case for instance means 10 kilograms of metal and plastic don't have to be produced in China and then transported all the way to the Netherlands. Sometimes upgrading your processor or extending your memory can even prolong the lifespan of your old PC. Just a few measures can make your computer more silent and power efficient.

You can always contact us for free advice on power efficiency, power saving and extending the lifespan of your pc. Use our Contact page or mail to  info@wesavepower.nl.

ICT Industry accounts for 2 percent of Global CO2 Emissions

4/27/2007

The global information and communications technology (ICT) industry accounts for approximately 2 percent of global carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, a figure equivalent to aviation, according to a new estimate by Gartner, Inc. Despite the overall environmental value of IT, Gartner believes this is unsustainable.

Until now, few organizations were concerned about power costs and CO2 emissions. Although there is still a significant range of views and levels of awareness around the world and across industries, there is no doubt about the increased awareness of climate change. Intense media coverage has contributed to making “environmentalists” out of millions of people worldwide, which is beginning to affect consumer and business buying decisions. The issue is no longer about whether the enterprise needs to care, and more about the risk associated with doing nothing.

WESAPO systems up to 75% more efficient

3/15/2007

The average power consumption of a computer system is 300 kWh per year. WESAPO systems consume only 70 kWh, a difference of 45 euro and 150 kg CO2. If 100.000 people would buy low power computers it would save 23 million kWh. That equals the total power consumption of 6500 households, 4.5 million euro en 15.000 tons of CO2. That's not far-fetched when you consider the fact in 2004 there were more than 10 million PCs in the Netherlands. There are bound to more in the present time.

What is making our systems so efficient, you might wonder. Low power top quality components, optimally set up software and a power strip that cancels out parasitic loads.
