Wesapo has a new name: TurtleStep
Now that we are doing more than just developing low power computers
the name Wesapo (We Save Power) doesn't fully cover what we do.
The new name TurtleStep stands for the small, slow steps towards a more sustainable IT industry and society in general. It is also a statement against the detrimental marketing techniques of 'fast, faster, fastest' that is still prevalent amongst computer and electronics dealers. Nowadays computers are so fast that 95% of all users doesn't even notice the difference between a 'fast' and a 'slow' PC.
Why (more) sustainable computers?
Tens of millions computers are sold worldwide every year. The depletion
of several resources makes this procedure almost untenable as we speak. E-waste poses a rapidly growing environmental problem and the power consumption of the IT industry as a whole is contributing heavily to greenhouse gas emissions. Besides, sustainably produced goods
are almost always healthier for the end user.
What makes TurtleStep more sustainable?
First of all our computers are extremely low power consuming desktops, due to very efficient hardware and a solution for parasitic loads. The wooden casing of the PC makes production more sustainable than usual. Our website is hosted in a sustainable way, we donate for every computer sold to social climate projects and devote ourselves in various ways to making computers and the IT industry more sustainable.
What about pricing and performance?
We use regular hardware components but only the most efficient available. This means our computers perform just like any other PC but consume a lot less power. Thanks to our sustainable approach we also save on the invisible price tag of exploitation, pollution and climate change. Computers are often dirt cheap because nature and the underprivileged have been taken
advantage of.
Who can use these computers?
Just
like regular computers our systems can be used to mail, surf,
download, watch video files, word processing, etcetera. The average
computer user can use our sustainable computers for many years, especially since we
make use of the latest technology and components are of top quality. We can also build more powerful
desktops or custom-made servers and HTPC systems.
